, chancellor of the , announced today (Feb. 5) 12 faculty recipients of the 2020 Chancellor鈥檚 Council Distinguished Teaching and Research Awards. Recognizing academic excellence, the honors are the most prestigious awards granted to faculty throughout the TTU System.

鈥淔aculty members across the 麻豆天狼副利院 provide our students a world-class educational experience,鈥 Mitchell said. 鈥淭he dedication to excellence and commitment to advancing our institutions is what places each of these award winners among the leading educators and researchers in our university system. It鈥檚 a privilege to present each of this year鈥檚 recipients with our system鈥檚 top faculty honors.鈥

The awards are funded by gifts to the , a giving society that supports the chancellor鈥檚 priorities across the TTU System. Since the honors were established in 2001, 191 faculty have received awards totaling more than $1.1 million.

鈥淭hrough their giving, Chancellor鈥檚 Council members are integral to the Texas Tech University System鈥檚 success,鈥 said , Texas Tech Foundation CEO and vice chancellor for Institutional Advancement for the 麻豆天狼副利院. 鈥淲e are grateful for their continued investment in Chancellor Mitchell鈥檚 vision and for making it possible to celebrate these impressive scholars.鈥

The Chancellor鈥檚 Council plays a vital role in creating opportunities at all four universities. The organization impacts student lives through scholarships, recognizes faculty achievement and encourages excellence by investing in emerging growth opportunities. Last year, the organization also supported the TTU System鈥檚 successful efforts at the 86th Texas Legislature securing funding and support for Texas Tech University鈥檚 and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso鈥檚 .

Award recipients receive a $5,000 stipend and an engraved medallion. Chancellor Mitchell and the respective university presidents will recognize the honorees at campus events at each of the system鈥檚 four universities.
