Jarett Lujan

STUDENT REGENT
Mr. Jarett Troy Lujan of Marfa was appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott to serve the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents as Student Regent for a one-year term, expiring May 31, 2018. He is the 12th student to serve on the board and is the third to represent . In addition, Lujan is the first Hispanic student to serve on the board.
As a student regent, he serves on the Academic, Clinical and Student Affairs Committee.
Lujan is currently pursuing a Master of Education in curriculum and instruction in higher education from ASU. He received a Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in chemistry from ASU in 2016, and he earned a Master of Education in student development and leadership in higher education with an academic advising certificate in 2017 from ASU.
Lujan served as ASU鈥檚 president of the Student Government Association during the 2015-16 academic year. He has served ASU as an admissions counselor during the past year mentoring and advising high school students in the West Texas region and representing ASU at college fairs and presentations.
He was a track and field student-athlete for the Rams throughout his undergraduate tenure. Lujan scored points in the Lone Star Conference Championships in 2014 and 2015 in the 800-meters completing as a mid-distance runner. His best finish was fourth place in 2014.
He has an extensive background of student involvement at ASU while also performing countless hours of community service in the San Angelo area.
Lujan served on the ASU Student Organization Advisory Council as a multicultural chair, the Quaestor for the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity, student representative for the student service fee committee and student chair on the selection committee for student scholarships managed by the Department of Student Affairs.
He takes great pride in hosting visiting high school students for campus visits and tours, and sharing his love for the blue and gold of ASU. As a first-generation college student, Lujan is motivated in guiding and supporting students through the process of not only being accepted into college, but also encouraging students to get involved in campus life, which plays a crucial role in student retention.
Lujan was born in El Paso and raised in Marfa. He is a 2012 graduate of Marfa High School where he was actively involved in every aspect of high school, including serving as class president, drum major, the athletics department鈥檚 athletic trainer and track and field state medalist.
He enjoys supporting Rams and Red Raiders at sporting events, running, dancing, playing competitive recreational volleyball and spending time with his family and friends. He is the son of Johnny and Tina Lujan of Marfa.
